The Motions
This might hurt, it's not safe
But I know that I've gotta make a change
I don't care if I break,
At least I'll be feeling something
'Cause just okay is not enough
Help me fight through the nothingness of life
I don't wanna go through the motions
I don't wanna go one more day
without Your all consuming passion inside of me
I don't wanna spend my whole life asking,
"What if I had given everything,
instead of going through the motions?"
No regrets, not this time
I'm gonna let my heart defeat my mind
Let Your love make me whole
I think I'm finally feeling something
'Cause just okay is not enough
Help me fight through the nothingness of this life
'Cause I don't wanna go through the motions
I don't wanna go one more day
without Your all consuming passion inside of me
I don't wanna spend my whole life asking,
"What if I had given everything,
instead of going through the motions?"
take me all the way…

Travel Plans: A Sure Destination Print E-mail
Weekly Devotional

“He brought me out into a broad place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me.” Psalm 18:19

When I was a child, my family loved to get the AAA auto club’s “Trip Tik” packets that helped us plan our family vacations. AAA would send glorious maps with the best route drawn by hand on each map. The company included brochures for possible side trips and must see attractions along the way. We could hardly wait for that packet to come in the mail so we could start dreaming our way to vacation.

The new thing of course is that it is all done online. In seconds I can have the new AAA “Trip Tik” calculate my exact journey right down to how long it will take to drive. I type in my starting point, my destination, and there it is. If I want to travel to Los Angeles, California, I turn right out of my driveway and then following AAA’s directions all the way across the country. I will drive 1977.9 miles, and in 28 hours and 27 minutes I will be there - 1st Street - in what I would assume is downtown Los Angeles.

My 2010 faith journey isn’t quite that clear or nicely laid out before my
eyes. It is, after all, a journey of faith. So where will all these travel plans that we have been engaged in the last few weeks lead you and me? We have yet to find out. We don’t know what detours will crop up in our road. We don’t know about tire blowouts, or running out of gas, or even if we might lose our way on a dark and stormy night.

But, this is what I do know, friends, because I know and trust the one who is holding the map, and plotting the course.

I know that God will be with me every step of the way – he has promised to never leave me nor forsake me. “For God has said, "I will never fail you. I will never forsake you." That is why we can say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper, so I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?" Hebrews 13:5-6

He has a good trip planned. “For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11

He is bringing me to a great destination in this life. It is a “broad place” – a safe place. “He brought me out into a broad place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me.” Psalm 18:19

And when the way gets long, and I get tired, I know that my ultimate destination is secure.  “For to me, living is for Christ, and dying is even better.” Philippians 1:21

And I know that life is good, here and now. It is good because he is good. Friends, take time this week to thank God for all he is, and for all he has done for you. Be specific as you thank him for the blessings you enjoy every day. And ask him to build your faith as you look to the future. Meet it with confidence because he is trustworthy. Blessings to you in 2010!
